Children’s eye tests and glasses
Paediatric Optometry is one of our specialties. Your children’s vision is so precious and instrumental in choices later in life. Before they get to school, the screening in nurseries can pick up lazy eyes. This is an invaluable service although it is not a full sight test.
From the age of 3, children can do an eye test pretty well. The brain has to learn to see and it depends on the eyes sending it good accurate information. An uncorrected prescription can mean this is poor and vision doesn’t develop as it should. Finding a lazy eye sooner means it can be treated sooner. It is recommended to have a sight test before starting school as well.
How do children know what is normal to see? They may not notice or be able to tell you they have a problem. It is not always obvious to an onlooker that there is a problem either.
An NHS sight test will evaluate your child’s eyes and make sure they are getting a proper start in their education with good vision. Around 13% of school children have an undiagnosed eye problem.
